Welcome!
You hold in your hand the first issue of The Nostalgia Zine, which we hope will be a regular feature available to all who sign up for our “email list”.
Other than in-house happenings like notes about shows we may be doing, or collections that we purchase and offer for sale, there will also be articles about many facets of the hobby/business that we all love. I know these articles will be fun to read and informative, and will cover a broad range of taste and opinion, and we welcome your thoughts, pro and con, about what we are trying to do here.
My own columns, disjointed and esoteric, may well be peppered throughout coming issues, and I'm always on the lookout for more intersting surprises to add to the Nostalgia Zine. Watch future issues for expanded features and more great articles on our favorite hobby/pastime.
This is a learning process for us here, and we are already late out of the block, but should be up to speed before too long. For starters we think the ’zine will be a quarterly, with plans to eventually take it to a monthly schedule should the readership demand it.
Also, in a hucksterish attempt to get something out of this effort for our parent company, The Nostalgia Zone, we will offer special ’zine-only deals to readers who can use these on-line coupons with orders from the website www.nostalgiazone.com. Every issue will feature a different on-line special highlighting a genre or publisher, or celebrating a holiday.
There will also be features designed for fan-participation, as well as the aforementioned fan-forum. Any comments you can give us will be greatly appreciated, and will make this ’zine a success. We look forward to offering a fanzine for people who like to read comics.
About the Authors
I first started reading Mike Tieffenbacher when I was in High School and he was writing for The Comic Reader, I especially enjoyed his and Don Rosa’s “Information Please” column. Years later as a Comic Book dealer, whenever I'd see him at a comic book convention, we’d have spirited discussions on comics fandom and the state of the comics industry while he waded through my inventory. He has graciously agreed to write for our new online ’zine, and I look forward to reading his installments in future issues.
Similarly, I met Mark Carlson while working at Comic City in the late ’70s and we’d talk of our mutual interest in obscure comics and share stories about comics fandom. Sometimes I’d let him go through old issues in his quest for published circulation figures and he’d discuss his idea to one day publish his findings. I'm happy to be able to offer a conduit through which these fascinating figures, gleaned from years of research, can finally see the light of day, and I also look forward to reading his future work.
